City Charter High School was recently featured as a recipient of the Top Workplaces award for the 2025 year. The school has previously received this award in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

The article written by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette highlighted City High's flexible schedule and structure by sharing about the four-day work week and teacher looping.

“We work on prioritizing a culture where students feel seen, they feel known, and they feel cared for,” Dr. Allen said. Being able to make sure that students feel best supported by staff strongly relies on making sure that staff feel supported too. “That extra day off during the week has made a huge difference...Folks have been more vocal about wanting a work-life balance since the onset of the pandemic. So our four-day schedule is another way that we feel that we have supported folks.”

Dr. Allen, Ms. Welch, and Ms. Dougherty were able to represent the City High team at the Top Workplaces event on Sept. 5.
