Position Overview:
City Charter High School is seeking an innovative and motivated Assistant Principal to work within an urban high school as a collaborative member of the administrative, grade level, and leadership teams.  Position start date, with some flexibility, is August 22, 2024.

Qualifications:
  • Pennsylvania certification as a Secondary or K-12 Principal.
  • Proof of Federal Criminal History Background Check, Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check.
  • Have an understanding of curriculum and instructional best practices.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, technology competency, communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to think and act creatively and implement non-traditional systems within a charter school environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team members of multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated efficient organizational and management skills.
  • Be a critical and reflective practitioner.
  • Knowledge of challenges facing urban school leaders.
  • Knowledge about Special Education and Section 504 rules, regulations and supports for students and families.

Description of Duties:
  • Serves as a school leader, responsible for implementation of all policies as a grade-level principal.
  • Loops with one consistent grade as the grade-level principal and works closely with the grade level team members and students.
  • Supports and enhances school culture at the teaching team and student level.
  • Works with teaching staff in the planning, improvement, development, and implementation of creative and innovative learning activities, as well as evaluating these activities.
  • Works as a cohesive and contributing member of the Admin team in making school-wide decisions and helping assure the smooth operations of the City High school program.
  • Assists in supervising various areas such as student activities (e.g. athletic intent process), wellness, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Visits classrooms daily to talk to students about their work, observe instruction and make the connections between what is being taught and the assessed needs of students.
  • Communicates and collaborates daily with school staff, parents and students.
  • Stays current with and implements educational best practices; helps to promote, facilitate, and assure corresponding professional development.
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct and health of students.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct, mediates student issues, and implements consequences that are restorative and ensures student safety.
  • Monitors and attends after school extra-curricular activities, open house, orientation and school-based field trips.
  • Thinks holistically and supports the needs of a diverse student body.

Compensation:
Very competitive salary commensurate with experience, demonstrated skills and performance. Salary range: $95,000+. In addition, City High provides a generous benefit package including health insurance (medical, dental and vision), paid time off, an annual performance bonus, a competitive 401k retirement program (with matching contributions up to 12%), a reimbursable educational stipend up to $3,000, and a 4-day school schedule that includes alternating Mondays off.

City Charter High School, a public 9-12 charter school, located in downtown Pittsburgh is looking to hire a full-time Reading Specialist.  This position involves planning and supporting literacy instruction for teachers and students in grades 9-12 in various areas including fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and differentiation for students at a myriad of ability levels. It requires independent work as well as working as part of various collaborative teams and content areas throughout the school. The secondary reading specialist analyzes and utilizes reading assessment data to determine instructional needs and skill deficits, and develops whole class and small group lessons and interventions based on discovered needs through the lens of Structured Literacy. The Reading Specialist also supports ongoing literacy initiatives as well as implementing new initiatives as appropriate, and continuously encourages enthusiasm in the power and importance of reading throughout the school.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education as well as a Reading Specialist Certification. Knowledge of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy approaches to reading instruction and intervention. Experience in secondary education is preferred. City Charter High School, an urban public charter school located in downtown Pittsburgh, is seeking to hire a full-time Financial Literacy Teacher. The position requires teaching personal finance, small business, and marketing, and must have proficient skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite. The position also requires co-teaching with the Technology Teacher in 9th and 10th grades within a three-year looping cycle. Ideal candidates must be certified in Business Education and/or Business, Computer, and Information Technology. 

The position includes a salary range starting at $50,500 and includes a full medical, dental, and vision benefits package, 10 days of paid time off, a 401k retirement plan, and an educational stipend for those interested in continuing education. Staff at City High also have the benefit of having every other Monday off of school (3-day weekend) leaving the other working Mondays available for professional development and co-planning.

City Charter High School is looking to hire a permanent building substitute to join our school community. The position will include working Tuesday through Friday on a weekly basis from 7:45 to 3:45 at a rate of $175.00 per day. The candidate must be flexible and comfortable in working with various content areas and high school-aged students.

Certification Requirements:
If you hold a Pennsylvania public educator certificate or a professional-level out-of-state educator certificate, you may be eligible to become a day-to-day substitute.

Requirements for day-to-day substitutes:

  • Valid Pennsylvania educator certificate or out-of-state certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalency) if not certified
  • Background clearances
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien status (green card)


If you do not hold the proper certification but have a bachelor’s degree, City High will apply for an emergency permit for a substitute position.
