City High Featured on iHeartRadio

City Charter High School CEO, Dr. Dara Allen, was recently featured on iHeartRadio with Johnny Hartwell where she shared about City High's mission and encouraged people to attend the Fall Open House on October 4th.

Dr. Allen shared specifically about City High's four-day school week and year-round schedule—something that makes the school stand out to prospective students and their families.

"Usually during the summer there's something called a summer melt where students sometimes can forget what they have learned during the year, and there's more catch up when they come back. And so by going year round—we're on a trimester schedule, so roughly three months on one month off—it's long enough to refuel and refresh during a break, but not so long that you have to remember what you may have forgotten within a longer break," Dr. Allen shared about the unique decision to run on a year-round school calendar rather than having a traditional three month summer break.

She also emphasized the importance of the looping system that City High uses to maintain strong relationships between students, admin, and students. Students at City High spend all four years with the same teachers instead of getting new ones as they advance through the different grade levels.

"The relationships that are developed between students and teachers together with modeling what the real world looks like, and also having people that really want to be at our school care about our students, really allows us to make the most out of our educational experience," said Allen. "There's a level of comfort, I think [students] feel that caring from the adults that are in the building."

Dr. Allen also highlighted the Fall Open House, which gives prospective families who are looking at enrolling their children at City High an opportunity to explore the building and talk to teaching staff and current students about their experiences.
