City High students who participated in a student panel about grief and loss, posing for a photo!
We are proud to share a recap of a wonderful experience a few of our students were able to participate in this fall! A carefully selected group of 11th graders at City High attended Pittsburgh's renowned grief and loss center, The Highmark Caring Place, for their annual Team Summit.
The summit informed students and school staff about the valuable support services offered by The Caring Place. More importantly, it equipped our attendees to step into leadership roles as ambassadors and liaisons for their peers back at school.
A major highlight of the summit was the featured City High student panel. Following a previous meeting where staff at The Caring Place were deeply impressed by our students' reflections on their grief and loss peer support group at City High, our students were invited to sit on a panel during the event.
Our student panelists inspiringly shared with 100 guests their firsthand experience with participating in a school-facilitated grief group. They offered insightful perspectives on the power of peer support, having a safe space to express their feelings and share experiences, and learning coping strategies in a supportive environment.
The students that were selected for this summit demonstrate outstanding leadership at City High and they truly represented our school with excellence at the Team Summit. We are incredibly proud of their dedication to supporting one another. We are so grateful to the Highmark Caring Place for recognizing the strength and compassion in our grief group members, and we congratulate our student speakers and liaisons: Macey Littlejohn, Anqwan Carter, Amiah Carter, Taylor Everett, and Jocelyn Harley on a hugely successful event.
