Living the Christian Life

By: Brittany Jones (class of '06)

A few days ago, I read, "Caution, exposure to the Son will prevent burning" on a religious tee shirt that was obviously promoting Christianity.   It was implying that devotion to Jesus Christ is the most important part of living the Christian life. A person who has personally accepted Christ as their savior, also known as a Christian, will give God all of their time through prayer, reading the Bible daily and preaching the Gospel (Important part of the Holy Bible). I completely support the somewhat humorous quote, however, there aren't many who would follow me. Thousands of opinions are offered each day about what it really means to live a Christian lifestyle and most would agree that being a good person is the biggest part of it all. Indeed, it is important to be a good person because it is a part of devoting yourself entirely to God, but there is more to being devoted to God than just being a "good person". If you are a devout Christian you know that it is important to expose yourself to Jesus Christ and give everything you have, including your time, to the Lord.

In this time that you are giving to God, you might want to talk to Him. If you agree that communication is a key element to a relationship then you should also agree that it is important to Pray to God on a daily bases. Prayer is a form of communication that Christians use to converse with God. They tell God their sins then ask for forgiveness, they praise God for the many blessings He has done in their lives, and of course, they ask God to continue working in their lives. In the Bible, Jesus states that if you ask for something you will receive it from the Lord: " Ask and you shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be open to you" You know, through reading your Bible that, God provides you with everything you desire.

The Holy Bible is a Christian's evidence to his entire belief system. It is the foundation on which we base our entire religion. Here's a great question: Why on earth wouldn't you read the Bible? It is not only the backbone of your entire spiritual life, but it is also what God uses to speak to Christians since, let's face it, He doesn't come down from heaven to talk to us on a regular basis.  For instance, if you were looking for answers to questions dealing with your spiritual life, you would look to God for them. Well, the Bible is a message from God Himself (also known as "The Word of God").  He has provided His followers with The Bible (Basic instructions before leaving earth) so that it can be used by Christians to grow closer to God, and so that they can support their beliefs.

Through reading the Bible daily, a Christian will continue to learn about what it says about salvation. If you knew the cure to the common cold, you would tell the world, wouldn't you? Well then, if you knew the only way to get into heaven as a devout Christian, you should feel the need to tell the world! Preaching the Gospel is a testimony of your faith to the Lord. Confessing how you feel about your beliefs and standing up for your faith shows how committed you are to Jesus Christ. He even said, "If you confess me before men, I will confess you before the Father; if you deny me before men, I will deny you before the Father". What Jesus meant when he said this was that it is important to confess your Love and Devotion for the Lord to other people. In that they will receive the gift of salvation that you, as a Christian, so desperately believe in.
As a Christian you should strive to become a disciple of Jesus Christ (a follower in other words). To follow in his footsteps you have to know Jesus Christ as your God. To get to know him better you have to read the Bible, and pray to Him every day. In that, you're relationship with Him will grow stronger everyday, and you'll find that it is important to spread the "Good News" (Gospel) to the entire world. So, if you are a Christian, I advise you to remember those valid aspects, and apply them to your Christian lives everyday!
